Northern Area Playing Fields
Community sport in Sunderland gets a boost as partners TigerTurf & McArdle Sport Tec complete major Parklife Football Hub.
Four new artificial grass pitches (AGPs), including one World Rugby Reg 22 compliant AGP, were officially handed over in November 2019 to Sunderland City Council. The Northern Area Playing Fields Parklife project will also benefit from a full-size natural turf pitch, pavilion, and 321 parking bays.
Working in partnership with TigerTurf, McArdle Sport Tec were delighted to have been selected as the manufacturer/contractor for Northern Area Playing Fields Parklife project through the Football Foundation.
In 2018, the Football Foundation and funding partners selected Sunderland City Council for three Parklife football hubs locations totaling £18m.
The Parklife Football Hubs are funded by the Premier League, The FA, the Government, Sport England, and Sunderland City Council, with the charity, the Football Foundation, overseeing the project delivery.
What differentiates ‘The Parklife Programme’ to the FA’s the ‘Premier League & FA Facilities Fund’?
The ‘Parklife Programme’ is the creation of new multi-pitch artificial football hubs installed in high demand areas, which typically will have a minimum of two artificial pitches, changing accommodation, and potentially a natural grass pitch.
McArdle Sport Tec understand the importance of our clients investing into unique world class education sports facilities. We work with our clients to offer unique and innovative designs and installations, ensuring all our clients receive a sports pitch which not only meets but exceeds their expectations. The aim of the ‘Parklife Programme’ is to create sustainable football facilities contained within hub sites, which differs from traditional football investment streams as the funding partners are keen to see a portfolio approach that provides an area-wide solution rather than a one-off site investment.
