THREE HILLS SPORTS CENTRE, FOLKESTONE
Three Hills Sports Centre Ground was a large scale project involving a range of synthetic sports surfaces to cover a variety of sports.
The vision of the Three Hills Sports Centre (formerly known as Cheriton Road Sports Ground) Trust was to provide ‘state-of-the-art’ facilities for cricket, hockey, netball and other team sports, encouraging greater participation from all areas of the local community in team-based sports, as well as providing a significant boost to Folkestone’s sporting credentials.
In particular, the Trust wanted to provide a centre of excellence (to national standards) for cricket, hockey and netball that would be open to people in the local area. The £6 million development was to be split into 2 stages: outdoor artificial surfaces in stage one and a clubhouse, gym, conference centre and cricket pitches in stage two. McArdle were successful in securing a tender for stage one of the project.
During construction, the site was visited by archaeologists due to past Stone Age findings. This meant it was necessary for extra care to be taken when undertaking groundworks. Despite this unforeseen obstacle, we were still able to complete the project on time and within budget.
This comprised of:
- 2 tarmac netball courts for use by Folkestone Town Netball Club
- 1 tarmac MUGA
- 2 full size all-weather pitches 91.4m x 55m, one with line markings for hockey to enable local club, The Optimists, to play all of their home games, and the other for hockey, football and netball
- 1 hockey training area
- 1 natural turf cricket outfield
- Dug out benches, perimeter fencing and floodlighting
The Three Hills Sports Centre is located in Folkestone, formerly Cheriton Sports Ground.
