Mangotsfield Football Club
McArdle Sport Tec deliver Mangotsfield Football Club’s 3G Stadium Transformation.
Formed in 1951, Mangotsfield Football Club, fondly known to their fans as “The Mangos,” were facing significant challenges with their natural turf stadium pitch, which was impacted by inefficient drainage, exacerbated the significant gradient which frequently disrupted training sessions and matches. The requirement for a reliable and durable surface became crucial to meet the clubs’ objectives and expectations to continue training at a reliable home ground in preparation for competing in the Hellenic League Premier Division.
Mangotsfield’s new £1.2 million artificial grass pitch was delivered with TigerTurf working in partnership with McArdle Sport Tec under the Football Foundation Framework. This ambitious 3G stadium artificial grass pitch complete with spectator areas, rigid bar fencing, LED floodlighting, hardstanding storage, and new maintenance equipment; has brought the club’s facilities in line with National League System Step 4 requirements and FIFA Quality standards.
Innovative Civil Engineering Overcomes Site Challenges:
Our civils team had to regrade the existing natural turf pitch which had a substantial cross fall from corner to corner, necessitating a significant cut-and-fill operation whilst navigating the existing utilities and electrical cables which needed carefully re-routing.
Sustainability played a key role in the project, approximately 200 tonnes of concrete from the original pitch perimeter wall was crushed and repurposed within the new stone base infrastructure.
To tie the upgraded 3G pitch seamlessly into the surroundings, extensive retaining walls were constructed adapting to varying levels using slope loc blocks with custom designed fabricated corners ensuring the walls integrated seamlessly.
A new staircase was installed for players to navigate access the 3G pitch, which posed a new challenge for our site manager, combining sloping blocks and straight blocks with fabricated plates to ensure a high-quality finish
Game-Changer for the Mangos:
The 3G stadium conversion extends beyond the artificial football pitch, featuring new twin-bar and super rebound fencing, LED floodlights, spectating and hardstanding areas, and installation of two new covered stands.
The new 3G pitch provides the club with a high-quality, reliable playing surface, allowing consistent training sessions and smooth uninterrupted matches, regardless of the weather conditions; players can focus on their performance rather than worrying about the condition of the surface.
