Truro & Falmouth MP, Sarah Newton, officially opened Falmouth School’s new third generation (3G) artificial grass pitch on Wednesday 26th September.
Falmouth School pupils and the surrounding community are enjoying a new 3G Football Artificial Sports Pitch and sports hub. The school were awarded a £362,574 grant from the Premier League & The FA Facilities Fund, delivered by the Football Foundation, towards the school’s project.
The new artificial sports pitch is a result of a lengthy & strategic process, after selling the land ‘Union Corner’ previously owned & used by the school for natural turf pitches; the money received from this sale secured and financed a 125-year lease of land from the NHS, which surrounded the existing school’s boundary. The sale of Union Fields enabled the school to consolidate the sports facilities and the education buildings in one contained area, vital for increasing the safeguarding of pupils.
Partners TigerTurf won this competitive tender through the Football Foundation tendering framework; and McArdle Sport Tec installed a full-size floodlit 106m x 70m..

The new 3G AGP will cater for the demands of the school pupils and wider community, as the pitch has been installed with floodlights, it will increase capacity and availability of the facility for the partner clubs thanks to it being usable during the evenings.
Since 2000, the Football Foundation Funding Partners investment have provided 147 grants worth £6m towards grassroots sports projects across the whole of Cornwall.
Falmouth School would like to place on record their thanks to The Premier League and The FA Facilities Fund delivered by the Football Foundation for their generous grant, Kier construction for delivering the superb building work and McArdle Sport Tec for providing the 3G pitch.
“The whole of our school and college community is thrilled with the new facility and there is great excitement about the opportunities this brings. It has been a long journey to get here, but it has been worth every moment to see such a fantastic facility. Falmouth School has improved sport, fitness and health opportunities for our students and the wider community through this development for years to come.”
Jem Wallis, Director of Sport at Falmouth School.
